do not buy this I bought this notebook computer for my writing. Within 45 days the screen had cracked with out any trauma. I had not purchased the warranty so I was screwed. Thus, this computer is not very durable at all. In addition, when I contacted the vendor, they denied that I had even bought it from them.
Excellent Product I am so impressed with my netbook so far. It's lightweight and portable. I love the battery life. I can have it unattached for hours and still have plenty of battery left. My old laptop used to die in just 2 hours, but I can easily get 8 to 10 hours on this depending on the programs that I am using. Also, the keyboard feels almost normal size, so it wasn't hard to adapt to it. Although, some of the key placement is different (Delete button for instance) so I am still working on that. I read lots of review on other netbooks and believe I made the right purchase.
Does everything I need I bought this on the recommendation of a friend. I needed something small because I'm on the go a lot. I have a Clearwire travel modem so I do a lot of work on the road. But I didn't want a big laptop. I needed something that I could slip into my bag and yet when I turned it on, it could do all that I needed it to do (i.e., run my Office programs, browse the Internet, and do email, etc).
This little netbook does everything I need and more. I did have to put it the 2gb memory that was recommended, Crucial 2GB 256Mx64PC2-5300 CT25664AC667 DDR2 200-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory, but it was worth it so I didn't mind the extra cost.
If a person needs to run graphic intensive programs, this netbook would be pushed to its limits and probably would fit the need of that person. But for someone like me, who really just needs the basic programs to work and doesn't need a huge screen or high resolution, it works perfect.
The Network card seems not working
i am still trying to connect to the internet using the j45 but without a success. i have a doubt its not working.
Know What You're Buying! I've had this netbook for several months now and LOVE it!
It seems strange to me that folks would complain about things like Windows 7 starter. It clearly states that this is what is on the netbook, so don't purchase it if you want Windows 7 premium! My experience is that starter works fine and is probably perfect for this processor and memory configuration, of course you can't change the wallpaper (who cares?). Look, this is not a laptop, it's a NETBOOK! For web surfing, e-mail and documents, it works fantastic. I even watch YouTube videos and convert DVD files to MP4's and watch them with no problems. All this with only the 1GB of RAM that originally came in the machine. If you want speed, then buy a laptop with a faster processor and more memory. For portability and battery life, this thing rocks!

When saying notebooks I normally buy Dells. However, when I found I needed a small netbook for taking notes in class and I started looking at the various models, the Dell Mini’s battery life was not that good and the ASUS has attracted my attention for several reasons.
One of the students in class had one and he loved it. When I looked online price, reviews and opinions of the customers were excellent, so I decided to take a chance on it and it has been great. I like Asus Eee Pc 1005pe. Below are some of the Pro’s and (few) Con’s:
Pro’s: Price: A lot of machine for the price. When looking at the Dell and Sony models they cost more with fewer options
Monitor: Excellent, crisp LED backed 1024×600 display with minimal reflection
Bluetooth: Actually has built in Bluetooth which is not common on other Netbooks
Wireless: 802.11b/g/n with excellent reception and connects without problems
Windows 7 Starter: I was very surprised it boots up and shuts down very fast and uses minimal resources
Built in Web Cam and Mic: Although the webcam has become standard, I was surprised that it included a mic
USB Ports: Asus 1005pe netbook surprisingly has three USB ports built in!
Keyboard Layout: Takes a little getting used to since it’s obviously not full size, but the layout is very good
Battery Life: EXCELLENT. Running Windows and MS Works for 3.5 hours while taking notes I only used 22% of battery so it has very good power management. In addition, the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine auto-adjusts power settings to get maximum life out of the battery. For example, if you’re not touching the computer for more than a minute the computer starts stepping down the brightness of the display to prolong the battery life. If you are just looking to surf the web then you can just boot into the ASUS non-Windows environment which will make your battery life last even longer.
Hard Drive: A lot of netbooks are coming with only 160GB hard drives. This one has 250GB which is really a bonus.
Integrated Flash Card Slot: MMC/SD/SDHC
Built-in Recovery: Comes preloaded with an image of the system that the user can use to reload the netbook should the computer become infected or if they simply want to do a fresh install. A recovery DVD is included as well.
Con’s: Exterior Finish: I love the blue color, but the shinny finish picks up fingerprints easily. In addition, it scratches very easily as well. For me it’s not too big of an issues, but I know it could be for others.
Memory: Only comes with 1GB of Ram as do most netbooks. The netbook seems to run okay, but I noticed a speed improvement when I upgraded to the 2GB. If you are thinking of upgrading the memory see my WARNING below.
Pre-Installed Software: It comes with trials of Micro Trends AV and Office 2007. I deleted all of that crap off of the machine. If you’re planning on using it great, but otherwise I would get rid of it as it takes up memory and hard drive space.
DVD Drive: This isn’t necessarily a con, but I wanted to mention it for users who may want to load software from a CD or DVD that it doesn’t have one. I purchased an external drive for this.
MEMORY UPGRADE WARNING: I upgraded my memory to the maximum 2GB. There are two things to be aware of:
1. Amazon has listed on the page for this netbook a memory module under the Frequently Bought Together section on the page that is the INCORRECT memory type for this computer. Do not buy the 256Mx64PC2-5300 module, the correct memory is 6400 and not 5300.
2. I normally upgrade my computers with Crucial Memory. To ensure I was purchasing the correct memory I went out to Crucial’s website and ran their memory finder using my computer model. The module the Crucial website told me to purchase was CT25664AC800 2GB 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-6400 which I purchased from Amazon.
This memory module is INCOMPATIBLE with this machine. Users across the web have been reporting different issues. The problem I was encountering was the computer screen would sometimes come up black on startup. It would also sometimes show the boot process on the screen at startup which is not normal.
The big problem is that when the machine is operating on battery power it would not shut down completely. The Windows program would close and the screen would go dark, but the power lights remained on along with the fan sometimes staying on. The only way around this shut down problem was to shut down the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine software first and then shutdown the machine or press and hold the power button, neither of which I was willing to do.
Let me mention this is NOT a software issue with the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine but an incompatibility with the memory. After searching multiple forums I found a user who had purchased Corsair Memory VS2GSDS800D2 2 GB PC2-6400 800MHz 200-pin DDR2 SODIMM and used it with success. I ordered the new memory from Amazon and it works well and there are no longer any issues with startup or shut downs.
One last thought. If you are looking at this netbook as a replacement to a notebook or desktop then think twice about it. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great little netbook and it does a great job for me, but my primary reasons for getting this was to take notes in class, stay up on email and do web surfing.
Essentially I wanted something that could keep me connected to the world with long battery life, but without the weight and bulk of a notebook/laptop. If you want to do more than the basic stuff then you probably need to be looking at a different type of machine instead of a netbook.

Really good netbook This netbook is great. It does all the things i wanted it to do and more. we actually bought two of them and we are very pleased with our purchase.
Great till the screen went blank Delivery was within the shipping timeline. Wonderful product out of the box. Plug & Play with easy access to our wireless networks. The keyboard was not too small and RAM effectively managed web applications. Windows 7 Starter is minimalist; any applications beyond Web access will need drivers downloaded. For some inexplicable, to me, reason, the screen went black during a routine on-line session. The Netbook was no longer of any use.
Amazon's 30-day return for refund policy is GREAT! Thank goodness it did not go blank on day 31.

I seldom write reviews but I love this netbook - I have had it for 3 months and it has far exceeded my expectations - I can't believe how fast it boots up - 11 seconds - always brings a smile to my face - I have never used any other computer that comes close to it - I am also amazed by the long battery life - I really didn't believe the specs - makes me wonder what's wrong with all the others - love the keyboard - way better than my Sony VAIO that cost 3 times as much - thanks again and again to the other reviewers who said be sure to get the white model - it is beautiful - I get comments on it all the time - and for some reason it really doesn't show fingerprints - I am really happy that I bought this - seems like a fantastic price for what you get ...
the two negatives I will mention are (1) I didn't like some of the touchpad settings (it was always scolling by accident) and it took me forever to figure out how to modify them (go to control panel - hardware and sound - mouse - device settings - settings) (2) there is a noticeable delay loading some websites - I figure that is the tradeoff with a netbook and I am more than happy to wait a few extra seconds - I am a big skeptic about most things but ASUS has totally earned my respect with this computer - I highly recommend it ...

Asus isn't kidding about "all day computing" My battery, at 88% right now is showing 10hr remaining battery life as I type this review. I use this netbook for days before I have to recharge it. Without a doubt, this laptop's greatest feature is its phenomenal battery life.
I upgraded to 2gb of ram shortly after purchase, and also installed Windows 7 Ultimate Edition x64 (which works beautifully, if you were wondering). I enjoy snappy performance of all of my MS Office productivity programs, as well as speedy web browsing, movie playback, and music.
This is, of course, not my primary computer as I also own a full-featured 17" notebook. However, the Asus EEE PC 1005pe is a fine travel companion, and I can do everything I need and want with it on the road with virtually no compromises. I always feel like performance is up to snuff, and even this impatient reviewer never thinks anything lags too much.
Upgrade the ram, upgrade the OS if you like (I definitely like!), and you will have more of a "notebook" than a "netbook."
Lightweight, stylish, extraordinarily easy to bring with you everywhere you go, this Asus EEEpc is a total winner. Look no further.

I purchased the ASUS EeePC 1005PE-MU17 about a month ago, and have been very happy with it.
Pros:
- Great design. Nice clamshell case; I really prefer the battery being incorporated within the case rather than sticking out the back as it does with many netbooks. I highly recommend the white finish as it doesn’t show fingerprint marks at all and looks Apple-ishly cool.
- Good keyboard. Although the smaller keyboard takes a bit getting used to, I soon found it pretty easy to type on. As others have noted, the position of the right shift key is awkward, but that’s the only real issue I’ve had with the keyboard.
- Great for traveling. I took it on a two-week vacation and just kept it in a backpack without a case. It’s small, light, and durable.
- Performance: generally good. Boots up quickly. It’s a little slow to launch programs and do some other tasks with the 1GB ram it ships with, so I will probably upgrade to 2GB, but it’s been usable. Windows 7 Starter has been fine.
- Great for Skype.
- Easily finds and connects to wireless networks.
- Long battery life, although I’m getting about 8-9 hours rather than the 11 hours advertised.
Cons:
- Mouse bar and pad feel a little cheap and don’t always work well (may just take some getting used to).
- ASUS Expressgate, although theoretically a quick way to use web and email without waiting for Windows to boot up, has a nonstandard web browser that doesn’t work well with some sites and email clients. I’ve found it better to just wait a few minutes for Windows to boot up.
- The product ships with a default screen saver that is incredibly annoying – loud, cheesy music (think early 70s Mannix episodes)accompanied by a video of ASUS products. It’s easy enough to change, but it was very startling at first (could be very embarrassing in a meeting).
Overall, I’d definitely recommend the ASUS EeePC 1005PE-MU17, but would suggest getting the extra memory to boost performance.

Great Netbook I have this netbook on for 8+ hours a day while I am on my college campus and the battery life has never fallen below 65%. Granted the computer was asleep for a large portion of that time, but it still serves its function well and I never have to worry about the battery depleting while I am out an about. Some people have complained that this netbook is slow, but come on, it was not made for playing games or watching high def movies. This netbook works just fine for taking notes, reading documents, and surfing the web.
ASUS Eee 10.1-inch netbook Replaced my 7 in. Netbook because the key pad stopped working. Very pleased with larger netbook. I use mostly in my truck as GPS map. Much larger screen easier to follow while driving. Also hold tons of music and photos. Many reststops and fastfood restarants have WIFI so can keep up with gmail, check weather, read ebooks, etc. Far superior to automobile GPS and cost is about the same
Great Clamshell Without Spending A Lot of Clams Excellent netbook product, great battery life, and keyboard. Second ee pc product I have owned and this one is much better in performance, design, and battery life.
Upgraded RAM to 2 meg for my new 1005PE EE PC and already have external hd and dvd writer to do anything my other computers can do.
Recommend purchase if looking for a great netbook.
Returned to Asus. Poor Internet Connectivity....Poor Customer Service I ordered this netbook for my husband and we were both very excited when it came in the mail. Unfortunately, once it was charged up and ready to go, we found that the internet barely connected anywhere in our house. Even standing right in front of the wireless router, I only got 3 out of 5 bars of connectivity. I restarted both the netbook and the router, checked for bios updates and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver software. All the while, our laptop computer connected to the internet with full coverage and no problems.
Nothing worked for the netbook, so I called up the Asus help line to see what they could recommend. Both me and the guy I spoke with on the other line had a hard time understanding each other because of a language barrier and I think this may have contributed to the frustration. He told me there was nothing wrong with my netbook and that I needed to be standing within 5-10 feet of the router for the connection to work. I explained that this was absurd and that I wanted to send it back for one that worked. Needless to say, the conversation ended badly. Luckily, Amazon allowed me to return it anyway. As always, they have the best return policy. As I told the fellow on the phone, I won't purchase anything from Asus any longer, but I will definitely get my next netbook from Amazon.
ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-PU27-BK 10.1-Inch Netbook 1. Purchased for my wife (to get her off my computer).
2. She loves it - small, can be taken anywhere, long battery life (although she has only "tested" it to about 4hrs - 75% remaining), screen size is sufficient for her uses - Word Docs, watching Netflix, Facebook, etc. - she has not complained about speed, screen resolution, keyboard, touchpad (although I bought her a wireless mouse), etc.
3. Have had it now for a little over 1 month with no issues.
4. If you are going to purchase, please read Turtle James review of this product - he provides excellent suggestions for setup and removing "bloatware", although I had a couple small differences in the setup:
4a. Do not format your SDHC card, the system auto-recognizes and uses accordingly - I formatted as recommended and then the system would not allow me to use it for the ReadyBoost - I then inserted a "blank" SDHC and it worked like a champ - not sure why the formatting caused an issue.

Overall an excellent little computer for the money - I cannot speak to customer service/returns/etc. as I have not required any assistance.
